Spotlight on Egle, Supervisor at Roberts Metal Packaging

About the role…

1. What is your current job role, and what are your main responsibilities and tasks?

Hello, my name is Egle, I have been working at Roberts Metal Packaging for 20 years and I am a supervisor!

I’m here to blend in and be wherever I’m needed on the factory floor. A big part of my job is keeping things organised—planning orders, tackling any quality issues, and sorting out any hiccups in production. I also support the team with training, helping junior members get hands-on experience and a better understanding of how everything works.

My goal is to keep things running smoothly, making sure everyone knows they can come to me for anything—whether it’s a quick question or a bigger issue. I stay in close touch with the engineering team too, checking in regularly to keep everything on track.

2. What is the most interesting pack you’ve ever worked on?

I love working on all of our packaging projects—there’s no way I could pick just one! What makes it even better is how sustainable our whole manufacturing process is. It’s amazing to think that we create anything from a bottle cap to a tinplate box, it goes off to be used, then once it’s recycled, it comes back to us as sheet metal, ready to start the whole process again. Nothing goes to waste! It’s like a full-circle moment every time.

Being part of a team that’s committed to sustainability is something I’m really proud of because, let’s be honest, this is the future of the industry. Finding smarter, greener ways to manufacture isn’t just good for business—it’s essential for the planet.

3. What would you tell people about metal packaging if you had the chance?

It would be great to chat with schools and get students thinking about metal packaging in manufacturing—especially how it ties into sustainability. It’s something that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves, but when you think about it, packaging is everywhere! It’s on everything we buy, so it’s a huge industry that young people should know more about.

I also think manufacturing needs a bit of a reputation refresh. There’s still this outdated idea that it’s not a “serious” career path, which couldn’t be further from the truth. It’s a fast-moving, essential industry with loads of opportunities, and if someone has a passion for it, they should absolutely consider it as a career.

4. What made you want to get into metal packaging manufacturing?

I enjoy planning, being organised, training and supporting my team. When I saw this role, I was excited to be able use my skills to benefit the factory floor as well becoming part of a brilliant team. Twenty years later, I have gained so much experience and knowledge about the industry, as well as work with a team that I can trust, rely on and enjoy being around!

5. And finally… what is your favourite thing about coming into work every day?

The best part of coming to work? Hands down, the people. A lot of us have been at Roberts for around 20 years, so we’ve built really strong bonds—we just get each other. It’s great knowing you can always rely on your team; if one area is under pressure, everyone jumps in to help without a second thought. That kind of teamwork makes all the difference. It keeps production running smoothly and creates an environment where everyone can communicate in a way that works for them. It’s more than just a workplace—it’s a team that’s got each other’s backs.
